Neuropsychological Training
The clinical neuropsychology program is divided into two teams, supervised by Dr. Yochim and Dr. Kenny, both licensed psychologists. For each evaluation, each student on the team is involved in the testing, interview, or group supervision regarding the case. Comprehensive supervision of all assessment procedures is provided either through observation behind a two-way mirror or with the supervisor directly in the assessment room. Students are provided immediate feedback. Typically, several drafts of assessment reports are edited by the supervisor before the report is provided to clients. Feedback sessions are scheduled with every client (and family as appropriate), and these sessions are completed by the supervisor and students together. A software program, developed at the CUAC and expected to launch in early 2008, translates neuropsychological test results into practical language and generates a report to further assist families and other professionals involved with cases
Clients evaluated at the Aging Center range in age from 19 to those in their 90s. Presenting problems vary and include dementia, differential diagnosis, history of head injuries, and difficulty maintaining employment. Referral sources include probate attorneys, physicians, long-term care facilities, families, and other senior service agencies. Many evaluations address the need for guardianship, power of attorney, and capacity to complete various legal activities and/or instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) such as financial management.
