Psychotherapy Training

In the Psychotherapy program, the CU Aging Center offers traditional individual, group, marital and family psychotherapy services for older adults, including interventions for depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, adjustment to illness and loss, bereavement counseling, and family conflicts. Psychotherapy services are offered in conjunction with other CU Aging Center programs as needed in each family situation. In 2006, 165 clients benefited from 852 hours of CU Aging Center individual and group psychotherapy services. The psychotherapy training for students at the CU Aging Center involves close supervision by experienced clinicians (in most cases, licensed psychologists). Supervision is conducted weekly, usually in individual meetings with the student or in small groups. Supervisors support a wide variety of psychotherapeutic approaches including psychodynamic therapy, behavioral therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, and family systems therapy. Since the Center opened in 1999, over 45 students have been trained in the psychotherapy program.
