VI. COLLEGE SERVICES

Academic Advising & Counseling

Students are directed to the Office of Student Success for the purpose of academic advising and counseling. RN-BSN students will be advised by the program coordinator. The chairs of the undergraduate nursing, graduate nursing, and health sciences departments will be available to answer questions as well.

Graduate students will be assigned to a graduate faculty advisor.

The University Counseling Center is available to assist the student in resolving non-academic and/or personal or mental health concerns.  Individual and group sessions can be scheduled.  Counselors are also available at the student's request through Director of Counseling, Library Building, Room 127.

In addition, all faculty members assist in the evaluation and guidance of students.  If so indicated, arrangements can be made for the services of qualified professional consultants through the Director of Counseling.  This service is usually at the student's expense.

The counseling and guidance programs facilitate your adjustment to the College by the following services:

An initial orientation program, provide additional orientation as indicated and maintain avenues of communications

Encourage you to assume responsibility for satisfactory performance both academically and clinically and counsel as indicated

Counsel you, upon request, in the consideration of possible solutions of non-academic problems

Provide non-academic counseling and referrals

Encourage you to maintain professional standards
Counsel and guide you as indicated in accepting and making arrangements for the assistance of a professional counselor

RN-BSN ADVISING GUIDELINES

  1. After receiving an information packet an RN calls for evaluation appointment with the undergraduate nursing department chair. At this time an informal transcript review will be provided if the student has personal copies of transfer course work. The Office of Admissions and Records will complete the official transcript review after the student has been admitted. The Colorado Articulation Model guidelines will be validated and the applicant must present proof of an unrestricted Colorado Registered Nurse license.
  2. Using the INITIAL RN ADVISING FORM, the program coordinator assists the student to formulate a plan of study
  3. Admission applications are available from the Office of Admissions in Main Hall
  4. When the completed application is returned to the Office of Admissions, a file is prepared and once the application requirements are met the file is sent to the RN-BSN program coordinator who then evaluates the application for a recommendation for acceptance or denial
