XII. Professional Standards Policies

Damage to College Property

Any destruction of college or hospital property, intentional or unintentional, will be the financial responsibility of the student concerned and may be cause for dismissal from the College.

Faculty Evaluation by Students

All students are expected to evaluate individual faculty on teaching effectiveness.  Faculty value this process as a way to implement positive change and promote excellence.

A designated student will be assigned to distribute and collect the evaluation forms.  The faculty member will not remain in the classroom during the evaluation process.  Forms will be available to students overnight, in some cases, so they may type comments.  Forms will be given by the student assigned to collect the forms, to a secretary who will send the forms to Boulder for tabulation.

Evaluations will be reviewed by the faculty involved and the appropriate department chair.  the Dean of the College and possibly the Faculty Promotion Committee.  Faculty will receive a copy of the written comments according to UCCS policy.

Grievance Procedure

It is the policy of Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences to provide prompt and equitable resolution of student complaints and grievances.  A student presenting a complaint or grievance shall not be subject to reprisal.

Academic Grievance Procedure

A student may grieve an alleged error in grading by an instructor or other designated person involved in the evaluation of performance, a violation of a written policy regarding course requirements or an alleged error in the recording of official grades.

Procedure: Discuss the grievance with the faculty member involved in the incident within 10 working days of the alleged incident.  A written resolution shall be completed within 7 working days by the faculty member.  Both parties will sign resolution agreement.

If the issue remains unresolved, the Department Chair will discuss the issue with the Dean who will have authority to make a final decision on the issue.

Standards of Conduct

The college promotes an atmosphere which is conductive to learning and scholarly activity.  Students and faculty of Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences are expected to conduct themselves in a manner which reflects the highest standards of professional practice.

Violations of academic standards will be reviewed by the Department Chair who will determine consequences for the behavior.  Students who do not agree with this decision can contact the Student Center of UCCS to request the policy for further action.

Violation of professional standards will be referred to the Department Chair who in consultation with the Dean will make a decision related to the consequences of the act.  The Dean has the authority to call a committee of students and/or faculty to review the case.
