Illness or Injury

  1. At clinical/practicum facilities:

    1. If you are ill and unable to report for clinical/practicum/practicum assignment, you must notify the instructor and clinical/practicum area where you are scheduled to work prior to the time you are expected to arrive.

    2. During the clinical/practicum assignment, any illness or injury should be reported immediately to the instructor in the clinical/practicum area. The instructor will arrange for emergency care through an Emergency Room at Memorial Hospital if necessary and notify the clinical/practicum unit to which you are assigned. Student will be billed for personal medical care.

    3. If an injury has occurred, an Incident Report or Unusual Occurrence is to be prepared by the student with the assistance of the clinical/practicum instructor.  A copy is forwarded to the Undergraduate Nursing Department Chair.

  2. If you receive a needle stick on clinical/practicum or are exposed to an infectious disease, notify your clinical/practicum instructor who will follow agency protocol.
  3. It is no longer necessary to send the student to Public Safety to report their incident/injury. This can be done online at:  http://urm.cusys.edu/docs/index.html .
