At this site there are a variety of links related to Instructional Technology. I went to On-line Journals in Education, Communications and Culture and then to the Journal of Technology Education where there were numerous articles addressing all realms of education technology. In the Spring 1997, Vol.8, No.2 edition there are three articles that were of particular interest in gaining insight into technology in early childhood: An (Articulated K-12) Curriculum to Reflect Curriculum, Technology Education and the Search for Truth, Beauty and Love, and Classifying Approaches to and Philosophies of Elementary School Technology Education.

This is a site that has been created for teachers who are searching for online projects to integrate into their curriculum. It includes projects that have been used/are being used around the world. Projects can be searched by topic and age level. Using this site would suggest that you have addressed the issue of how to integrate select materials into a pre-existing curriculum.

In this site under Colorado Current Education Reform Efforts there are a variety of links that are relevant to technology in early childhood education. At Partnerships/Goals 2000 note specifically goals five and seven. See Colorado Technology in Education Page for a site that promotes and supports the integration of technology into the standards based curriculum in Colorado K-12 education. The Early Childhood Initiatives list provides perspective to the depth of focus that the CDE has on early childhood education and finally see Technology in Colorado Education Strategic Plan 1994-2004 as a resource for Colorado's vision for technology in education.

This is a web site that offers viewing of select abstracts from articles in the Journal of Computing in Childhood Education. The volumes listed for viewing offer information and insight in a variety of realms related to the use of computers in early childhood education. For example, Vol. 6, No. 1, 1995 has an article that deals with the issue of equity and diversity in classroom computer use. Another example is Vol. 7, No.1/2, 1996, which is an exploratory study of how pre-kindergarten children use the interactive multimedia technology. The most current volume listed is Vol. 9, No.2, 1998.

Topics of special interest at this site include but are not limited to At Risk Populations, CAI Appropriateness, Equity Issues, Graphics and Drawings, Home Computing, Innovative Uses, Multimedia, Pre-K Computing, Special Education, Telecommunications and Word Processing.

This is an article that addresses today's youth and Tapscott's belief that our educational system should eagerly embrace the new opportunities technology offers. He states that from the educators' perspective technology is making today's kids the most demanding and challenging students in history. They are a generation exposed to digital technology in virtually all facets of their day to day existence and technology is having a profound impact on their personalities, including their attitudes, and approach to learning.

This is a report by the RAND corporation that begins by defining educational technology and examining why educational technology is an important component of public policy. Chapter two examines the current school and student use of technology, and the effectiveness of educational technology. Chapter three focuses on current school technology expenditure and the costs of increasing the level of technology in schools. Chapter four focuses on the challenges of creating a nation of technology-enabled schools, ie. financing, teacher training, and software. Chapter five summarizes the findings and identifies the elements of a national strategy to expand the use of technology in education.

This site is an outline of a research report on the effectiveness of technology in schools. It's contents include Goal and Methodology Conclusions, Effects of Technology on Student Achievement (comparison studies, curriculum areas and student achievement, learner characteristics and student achievement, software design characteristics and student achievement, recent technologies and student achievement, instructional decisions and student achievement), Effects of Technology on Student Self-concept and Attitude About Learning (student attitudes in all areas in the parenthesis above), and Effects of Technology on Interaction Involving Educators and Student in the Learning Environment.

Also at this site you can find an Early Childhood Educator's and Family Web Corner; an Idea Box for Early Education and Activity Resources; Publications for Parents for the Department of Education and K-8 educational materials including: interactive activities, teaching and management tips, technology updates . etc.

This is a site that offers a variety of resources for integrating technology into the early childhood curriculum. The premise is that earlier exposure to technology increases learning potential for life and that enhancement of the pre-existing curriculum to include these technologies is necessary to prepare students for today's society.
