What: Introduction to ArcGIS 8x & 9x Certificate Courses

**There are no prerequisites. You do not need to be a UCCS student to take the course.

Dates: Courses are offerered monthly, generally on weekends; and on weekdays during summer, winter break, and/or spring break. See schedule

The course consists of lecture and hands-on GIS exercises. Students will learn concepts and applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), while learning to use ArcGIS software from the GIS software leader, Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc (ESRI). No prerequisites. Participants should know how to use Windows software.

Students Receive:

  • Two books, a CD with GIS tutorial data, and an evaluation copy of ArcGIS
  • Course certificate from ESRI upon completion
  • An understanding of fundamental GIS concepts
  • Ability to use ArcGIS software

Topics Include:

  • Map layers, symbology
  • Datums and map projections
  • Raster & vector data formats
  • Capturing and storing geographic data
  • Displaying spatial (geographic) and attribute (database) data
  • Editing spatial and attribute data
  • Querying/analyzing data by attributes or spatial relationships
  • Producing GIS maps, reports and graphs
