About the Graduate School
Graduate work at the University of Colorado began on a small scale in 1892. Following some years of development, in 1909 the Graduate School was organized as a University-wide body with a separate faculty. The Graduate School consisted of faculty resident on the several campuses who organized programs within the constituent colleges and schools. This body operated under the leadership of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and System Dean of the Graduate School in conjunction with a University-wide Executive Committee charged with developing and effecting University-wide academic policy.

Effective in 1999, each campus organized its graduate programs within an autonomous Graduate School. UCCS now has its own Graduate School with a Dean and a Graduate Executive Committee, who are responsiblee for the administration of Graduate School requirements and policies on this campus and for dealing with Graduate academic issues. The Graduate School provides oversight and coordination for all graduate programs on the campus.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Graduate School is to promote excellence in graduate education and to facilitate and enhance the educational experience and opportunities for graduate students. The Graduate School has the responsibility for oversight and coordination of all graduate programs, and to ensure compatibility among programs and compliance with Graduate School policies.

Message from the Dean

Welcome to the home page of the Graduate School at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs!

Thank you for your interest in the graduate programs at the UCCS. As the youngest and fastest growing campus in the University of Colorado System, we have a wide range of offerings for graduate study. We are confident that our programs are of the quality and value you should expect from a campus of a university which has been cited nationally for excellence in teaching and research.

All our programs benefit from the exciting research and creative activities being pursued by talented faculty on our campus.  Enhancing research, scholarship, and creative works remains one of the key elements in our Campus Academic Plan.

Graduate programs are available in many fields at UCCS --  some leading to the Ph.D degree and others to a Masters degrees in several disciplines,. Degrees are offered in the Colleges of Education, Engineering and Applied Science, Letters, Arts and Sciences, and Business as well as the Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences and the Graduate School of Public Affairs. Information on all of these programs is available on this web site.

It is important to note that many of our graduate programs are rapidly growing and evolving, and the information about these programs quickly may become out of date. Therefore, if you are interested in more information on one of more programs, I urge you to directly contact the program directors. They will be happy to answer your questions or help you contact the correct individual. The program directors' e-mail addresses and phone numbers are also available on this website.

Applications for graduate admissions are accepted anytime but each program has a specific deadline, so please direct your questions to your program of interest. Since admission to any program requires time for careful review, is competitive, and is not guaranteed, you are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. You may enroll in course work as an unclassified student prior to formal admission.  This coursework is often applicable to your selected graduate program.

Application material is available from the Graduate School, from this web site, or from the department or college administering the particular program. If you need to contact the Graduate School for anything, you may call (719) 262-3417, or e-mail us at gradschl@uccs.edu.

Again, thank you for you interest, and we wish you success in your academic endeavors.

Sincerely,
