The data for this homework assignment is a fixed-column ASCII data file from the 1996 skills survey for this course. The data are stored in the file: skills96.dat. The codebook that describes the variables, their positions in the datafile, and their value labels is stored in the file: skills96cbk.rtf. The codebook is in rich text format and can be read with any word processor.
1. Download the two files.
2. Read the data into the SPSS Data Editor using the Read Text Data option.
3. Save the TextWizard Predefined Format file on a floppy disk. Name the file: skills96.tpf .
4. Save the syntax commands from step 6 on a floppy disk. Name the syntax file: skills96.sps.
5. Save the SPSS system file (the file created in the Data Editor) on a floppy disk. Name the SPSS systems file: skills96.sav.
Make sure your name is on the floppy and turn it in at the beginning of the next class.

5 pts - the values are correctly entered in the SPSS system file,

5 pts - the variable labels and value labels in skills96.sav are correct.
2 pts - the file skills96.sps contains the correct syntax commands.
