ZELDA MINKIST

In the El Pomar Center: "Electric Highway Shadows"—mixed media/monoprint (1st floor, hall near Information Technology Operations area)

Artist Zelda Minkist began to study and experiment with different forms of art at an early age. Her father was an amateur photographer and introduced her to the medium, encouraging her interest. By the time she was in sixth grade, Zelda was already assisting a professional photographer, eagerly learning basic skills and techniques. Zelda continued her studies in art throughout her childhood and was awarded a scholarship to attend Savannah's College of Art and Design.

While Zelda continued her exploration of photography at an advanced level, she discovered her attraction to color theory, design and painting. Soon the world of black and white photography could not compare with the range of expression available in color, texture and line. As painting became her main interest she began to produce canvases of intense emotion with vibrant blocks of color and patterned forms. However, Zelda is still motivated by her camera lens, "My work is inspired photographically, but I take it beyond ordinary representation to create a harmonious blend of texture with composition."
