TIM MONDAY
In the Library: "Primitive"—Monoprint (2d floor, circulation area)
Tim Monday was born in 1962 and raised in Oracle, Arizona, just outside of Tucson. In 1990, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Arizona State University in Tempe.
While attending college, Monday worked part-time and, upon graduation, fulltime at Telos Fine Art Studio in Tempe, where he learned the craft of fine art printing. During that time, he worked on serigraph editions by several prominent artists including John Nieto, Bill Schenck, Michael Schofield and Howard Post among others.
While continuing to work with other artists on the production of their original serigraph editions, Monday has devoted an increasing amount of time to developing his own imagery and style. Although he is known primarily for his monoprints, Monday also works in acrylics as well as pastel.
"I use icons and imagery from many different cultures in my work. I think they provide a frame of reference or perspective that gives the work a form of continuity that purely abstract work doesn’t have. I love the entirely abstract work of others, but for my own work, I need something to give it context."
Monday’s work hangs in public and private collections throughout the Southwest including the Phoenician Resort, First Interstate Bank, and Good Samaritan Hospital, Phoenix, AZ.
