VAPA facilities include visual and performing arts
studios, computer labs, galleries, a visual resource center, and two black-box
theatres.
The Dusty Loo Bon Vivant
Theater
The Dusty Loo Bon Vivant Theater is a state-of-the-art, flexible black-box
theater that seats up to 300. Six to eight professional productions take
place in this space each season as well as two to three student productions.
Most productions are free for UCCS students.
The Gallery of Contemporary Art (GCA)
The GCA caters to the Colorado Springs and university communities. The
Gallery is situated in the heart of the campus and offers
four to five exhibitions annually by outstanding
regional artists as well as artists of significant national and international
reputation. This award winning gallery also hosts faculty and student
exhibitions annually.
The Osborne Studio
The Osborne Studio is a flexible black-box theater
with seating for 50, basic lighting instruments, 50-scene preset light board,
and sound equipment. Students (or faculty) produce between three and four
full productions and a One-Act Play Festival in this space each academic
year. These productions are always free for UCCS students.
The Visual Art Studios
The visual art studios are well equipped and include a foundation, drawing,
painting, sculpture, fiber, photography, and a multimedia computer lab.
VAPA Multimedia Lab
Twenty-two Macintosh G5s and thirty Dell PCs make up the state of the art
VAPA Multimedia Lab housed in Columbine. The lab is equipped with the latest
graphic and multimedia software including Adobe CS, Macromedia Studio,
Final Cut Studio, DVD Studio Pro, and Soundtrack. Scanning capabilities
include print, slides, and negatives. In addition students have access
to audio and video recording equipment.
The Visual Resource Center (VRC)
The VRC houses a large collection of slides including painting, photography,
sculpture, design, and the decorative arts. The online digital database
ARTstor provides access to over 600,000 images from renowned museums and
collections around the world. A student resource area is also available to
explore exhibition, performance, and grant opportunities, as well as graduate
schools.
Open computer labs
The open computer labs in the Library and in Columbine support both MAC & PC
platforms and a full range of graphic and media software. They are open seven
days a week from morning through night. Please check with the Library or
the IT Help Desk for specific hours.
The state of the art Multimedia Lab in the Library has 12 Dell PCs and four
Macintosh G5 computers for students to create video, web, and graphic projects.
Including Adobe CS, Macromedia Studio, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, iMovie,
iDVD, My DVD. The lab is available to students of all levels beginners through
advance. Both PC and Macs have scanners available. All 16 stations in the
Multimedia are equipped with a combination Mini-DVD / VHS deck for video
capture, and a smart-card reader to load images from digital cameras.
